MEQ - Marine Environmental Quality LA Harbour

The " Marine Environmental Quality " project is concerned with metal levels in the water and sediments of Los Angeles, Long Beach, and South San Francisco Bay. The sediments can act as both a source and a sink for metals in these harbors depending on the metal and bacterial processes. Extremely high metals levels (100 to 10,000 times higher than coastal ocean water) are found in these harbors due to sewage outfalls, urban and industrial runoff, and restricted circulation.
