I am a hybrid graduate of both the Chemical Oceanography Laboratory and the Ichthyology laboratory. My research involves the application of radiochemical methods towards the determination of rate and growth processes in living marine systems. This is a crossover discipline we term Marine Radiochemical Biology and utilizes both naturally produced radionuclides such as 226Ra and 210Pb as well as 14C produced by the atmospheric detonation of thermonuclear devices during the cold war. Using these environmental clocks we have aged commercially important fishes, sharks and corals and hope to use this data to establish more responsible sustainable yield estimates for fishery managers.
